Opening Reception: New Works

Estia's Little Kitchen x The SHED Workspace

Please join us on Sunday, April 7th, from 3:30 to 5:30PM at Estia's Little Kitchen for a FREE! opening reception that features the work of Margot Carr and Melinda Hackett.

The SHED Workspace is thrilled to help showcase the work of these two female talents. The new exhibit will run from late March until early June. All work is for sale. Proceeds will benefit the Estia's Artist Fund. It's an initiative — spearheaded by Colin Ambrose — to help support local artists, offsetting the cost of materials and supplies through the sale of art at Estia's.

About the Artists:

MARGOT CARR is an oil painter whose works are inspired by the cobalt blue skies and cadmium green lawns of the Eastern End of Long Island. Carr says: "I paint to capture a moment of sunlight upon oceans, lawns, marshes and architecture, leaving areas unfettered, to allow my viewers to complete the details in their minds and react based upon their own visual experiences." When she’s not painting, Carr has focused her career in a variety of creative businesses: as managing director of production companies, web development firms, architectural firms and currently a software technology firm. Carr is a graduate of the University of Vermont with a double major in studio art and art history.

MELINDA HACKETT is a painter who incorporates drawing, sculpture and printmaking into her practice. Hackett’s work has been described as organic, biomorphic ‘pop’. Her work is rich with saturated, jewel tone color and she populates her pictures with systems of invented and borrowed forms derived from the natural world as well as her own internal sources. A graduate of the Parsons MFA program, Hackett’s work is in public and private collections including the Parrish Art Museum in Southampton, LI. She lives and works in New York City and Southampton.

Festa Al Camino: A Fundraising Dinner

Tutto Il Giorno x Urban Zen x The SHED Workspace Present: Festa Al Camino

Come join us on February 7th from 6 to 9PM at Tutto Il Giorno in Sag Harbor for Festa Al Camino. (Festa Al Camino means Feast by the Fireplace in Italian.) Sitting down together over a three-course, family-style dinner with wine, the focus of the evening will be around building community, increasing awareness, and raising money.

Even in an area of tremendous affluence such as ours, there are local families, many of whom are seasonal workers, that struggle to afford the basic necessities — particularly during this time of year.

Currently, the Sag Harbor Food Pantry assists around 75 families who reside within the Sag Harbor School District. Once winter comes, many of these same families have difficulty affording the cost of heating oil. (One hundred gallons of heating oil costs around $400.)

Money shouldn't be an impediment to keeping warm, particularly in a resource-rich area such as ours. All proceeds generated from Festa Al Camino will help fund a new initiative: Keep Sag Harbor Warm. A portion of sales from Urban Zen will also be donated.

Going forward, the Sag Harbor Food Pantry will help oversee Keep Sag Harbor Warm — ensuring that families with school-aged children who already receive food assistance and who need help heating their homes receive heating oil assistance.

WHO: Open to all

WHAT: Three-course family-style dinner (with wine)

WHERE: Tutto Il Giorno, 16 Main St. Sag Harbor, New York

WHEN: Thursday, Feburary 7th from 6 to 9PM

WHY: All proceeds benefit Keep Sag Harbor Warm

Tickets available for purchase via Event Brite.

Estia's Artist Fund: Opening Reception!

Estia's Little Kitchen x The SHED Workspace

Please join us on Sunday, February 3rd, from 3:30 to 5:30PM at Estia's Little Kitchen for a FREE! opening reception that features the work of Georgia Suter and Edwina Lucas.

The SHED Workspace is thrilled to help showcase the work of these two local talents. As young painters, both women are prime examples of the creative spirit that thrives within our community.

The current exhibit will run from now until March 20th. All work is for sale. Proceeds will benefit the Estia's Artist Fund. It's a new initiative — spearheaded by Colin Ambrose — to help support local artists, offsetting the cost of materials and supplies through the sale of art at Estia's.

About the Artists:

EDWINA LUCAS was born and raised on Long Island. As a young girl, Lucas' mother taught her oil painting and she quickly fell in love with the medium. A graduate of Skidmore College, Lucas now lives and works in Sag Harbor. Her current body of work draws inspiration from the unique topography and natural light of the East End.

GEORGIA SUTER was born in Manhattan but grew up in Washington, D.C., Connecticut, and Long Island. A graduate of New York University, Suter's work examines the ways in which human beings occupy urban and rural spaces. She explores themes such as inclusion and exclusion, a sense of belonging, and anonymity in urban life.
